NERDIC Industry 4.0 Readiness Ecosystem: Using Augmented Reality
April 27 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
NERDIC is a New England collaborative effort to provide support and benefits to the defense industry in the region. As part of a program to build stronger connections among suppliers and manufacturers in the region as well as promote Industry 4.0 readiness, NERDIC is conducting a number of workshops designed to help companies see how Industry 4.0 technologies can benefit them.
This program will deliver a series of technology workshops and demonstrations to showcase how Industry 4.0 technologies can be used to help optimize manufacturing processes in the New England defense manufacturing supply chain. The technologies include generative design, additive manufacturing, augmented reality, and more. The overall aim is to help increase capability and competitiveness for the region’s defense manufacturers.
Augmented Reality is the overlaying of digital content into the physical environment. Specifically, to manufacturing, this can include any type of virtual parts, data, photos, videos, and work instructions. These assets can be transposed on to a machine in the real world for easier training and troubleshooting through a device such as a phone or headset. Our engagement with CCAT is specific to HoloLens 2 which is an advanced augmented reality headset created by Microsoft. HoloLens 2 has comprehensive voice recognition, gesture recognition and is a hands-free heads-up display.
